'Idol' Watch: America is Over Amanda

Ironically as soon as Amanda Overmyer began to show a glimmer of personality she was sent packing! Yep, the 23-year-old from Mulberry, IN, had the unfortunate honor of being the last wannabe sent packing before getting a guaranteed spot on the nationwide American Idol tour that kicks off following the finale. Amanda joins Season 6's Brandon Rogers and Stephanie Edwards plus Season 5's Melissa McGhee, Kevin Covais in the close-but-no-cigar hall of fame. But the real shocker last night was that Carly Smithson ended up in the bottom three. Long thought to be crusing through to the final two, everyone was stunned that she placed at the bottom of the totem pole. A teary Carly was forced to wait out the rest of the show before being told by Ryan Seacrest that she was safe. Amanda and Carly were joined in the bottom by Kristy Lee Cook, who keeps hanging on, despite having been in the bottom two for the last four weeks.Next week will, thankfully, be Beatles-free as the theme is "Songs from the year you were born." And the realization that David Archuleta, who was born in 1990, could conceivably sing "Escapade" makes me feel 100 years old!
